Qualification Description
This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working with civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.
Duration and Delivery Arrangements
This course has been designed to be delivered over 1 year.
Summary of Amount of Training:
Classroom Training:
1 day (8 hours) per fortnight for 48 weeks = 192 hours
Site visits: 24 x 6 = 144 hours
On-the-job training and practice:
10 hours p/w x 48 weeks = 480 hours
Assessment Activities:
Theory assessments: 50 hours
Practi cal assessment: 106 hours
Self-Study: 400 hours
Total Amount of Training and Assessment:1372 hours

- This Training is delivered with Victorian Government Funding for eligible students. To be eligible, you must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or have a permanent residency visa, and be ‘upskilling’ by seeking to enrol in a higher level course than what you already hold. This may impact on your access to further government subsidised training in future.
Employment Outcome
Persons who complete the RII30815 Cert III in Civil Construction Plant Operations would have the knowledge and skills to be employed in a number of roles within the civil construction industry, including as the operator of a variety of plant and equipment.

Learners who successfully complete the RII30815 Cert III in Civil Construction Plant Operations may undertake further training in a number of qualifications in the civil construction area such as:
- Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision
- Diploma Engineering Technology (Civil)
- Advanced Diploma Engineering Technology (Civil)
- Bachelor Civil Engineering

To achieve the RII30815 Cert III in Civil Construction Plant Operations, the following units of competency must be completed:
- 14 core units
- 5 electives. At least 2 electives from Group A and 3 electives from Groups A, B, or C

Entry and Admission Requirements
All applicants must be employed in civil construction work and have access to all required equipment. Learners enrolling in the RII30815 Cert III in Civil Construction Plant Operations would be expected to have minimum LLN skills that align to Level 2 of the ACSF in order for them to successfully undertake the qualification. Learners with LLN skills at lower levels than those suggested will require additional support to successfully undertake the qualification.
